For best results make sure you pick your flowers at their freshest and press them when there us no moisture on them.
It's important to condition your flowers if they haven't started to bloom yet. Using clean water, flower food until they start to bloom, if you don't press them immediately upon picking them. I normally condition them regardless of how soon I'm able to press or dry my flowers. The colors are better when you take this extra step.
When preparing the flower for pressing some thought should be given as to how it will look when flattened. Avoid allowing parts to overlap unless for artistic effect. Leaves should normally be laid out flat.
Place flower between 2 sheets of paper to protect the pages of the book. Leave at least 1/8" of pages between pressings, weigh the book down and wait a couple of weeks.
You can put the book with flowers and paper in the microwave and zap in short bursts, (30 seconds to a minute at a time, checking between to see if they're done.) Repeat until almost done, then put in a another book or press to finish.
Get a old set of encyclopedias for pressing. They look better than phone books and you can learn as you press!

Getting good at the Garden Parties!!! Had lots of fun with the ladies at Ms. Harrison's beautiful house today...We did 2 different arrangements of hydrangeas and tulips with some curly willow, then we did my Brewed Awakenings, that is fresh coffee beans in a vase with multi color bright flowers in a cube vase. I ordered online a lot for Christmas this year, but I got to thinking about where the money was going and how I was hurting my own business.
Every time I purchase something online that money leaves our area. That money goes into the pockets and bank accounts of businesses and employees in other towns, other states, and, sometimes, other nations.
Most of our money stays in the CSRA whenever we shop locally. The money spent locally goes into our local banks, helps local tax accounts, and that money goes to those who live in our region. These same people may well be the customers who buy goods or services from my business.
If you buy online for the ease and convenience, don't worry, most local businesses have a website.
